Joy in WHAT? - Take Two

Last night in an exhausted and probably hormonal state I wrote novel-length post about the joy in motherhood - or more appropriately, the lack thereof. Some of my wording was offensive to my sweet husband, it made him feel like a beast that makes me miserable, and that was far from my intent, so to him I am very sorry. I'd like to try again to candidly write about my feelings for posterity, and for any others that may read this that have been there at least once. First, a few disclaimers. 1) This is pure honesty. No sugar coating here! 2) I love my kids like crazy. I love my husband even more. 3)I am happy and content with my life over all. I wouldn't change a thing, other than my outlook on it. With those disclaimers done, I'd like to give a little background info that not just anyone may know. 1) I don't like babies much at all. I like to hold them for a few minutes, but then I am done. I can't hold one for hours, basking in it's sweetness. I am just n...

Two Car Family

That's right. After 8 years of marriage, we decided it might be time to outgrow just one car. It worked in Rexburg where I could walk everywhere. It worked in Ammon because we could walk and one of us was always home. It worked here in the boondocks for 2 years because I just bummed a ride when I wanted to go to town and had no car. But between Nate being in school, and Andrew working in Pocatello, it just wasn't working very well any more. So we celebrated our anniversary a day late with some car shopping. We actually have been budgeting, planning and researching for a year. We knew what we needed, and after multiple revisions, knew what we could afford. We found a 2006 Ford Focus. By luck, it was white, so it won't feel left out with Mom's white Escape, Dad's white Ranger, or our white Explorer. It gets great gas mileage, is a manual, has a 6 CD changer, super tinted windows, and (to my utter amazement) heated cloth seats. Is that safe? I don't love driving it...

End of Week Two

Well, okay, here we are again, and I have blogged the first and second weeks of the month now. Go me!! Recent happenings: Andrew slid off the road on the highway (at the end of December), and did $2000 in damage to the SUV. Luckily our deductible was only $500. Unfortunately at the same time a wire in the drivers door got a short or something like that, and it drained the battery repeatedly. So the day we went to take it to the body shop it wouldn't start. We ended up with a total $900 in repairs between the accident, the short, and the battery, and no car most of the week. We've also been looking a lot at cars for Andrew, we think it's finally time to become a two-car family. Maybe. Andrew started school AGAIN. He now has a bachelors, a technical certificate, an associates, and is working on another bachelors, this time in nursing. After that: on to a masters and/or PhD. I am good with it. as long as he can work, and i can stay home, we're good. Honestly, I am a ...

A New Me

Just before Christmas we had a relief society lesson where we discussed what gifts we can give the Savior. It really made me think that more than "resolutions" this year, I want to set goals that are gifts to my Savior. I am overwhelmed when I think of what He has given me. I am spending this year working on a total me-makeover, trying to turn myself into someone more like who the Savior wants me to be.  At first I thought I wasn't going to post about my goals, thinking they were too personal, but I realized that none of them are big secrets. And as I have been listing my goals, and making a game plan for how to reach them, I realized that most of them call for me to enlist the help of others, either others who have mastered my goal, or others who are working towards the same goal.  I didn't want to overwhelm myself, I think it may be too late for that. I have 10 goals, and they divide evenly into two categories: Spiritual and Personal. I thought maybe that the pers...

Final Quarter 2010

Here is a comprehensive summary (is that an oxymoron?) of September, October, November and first week in December. Yay. September brought the end of yard work - not enough was done this year, but whadda ya do, right? Nate started kindergarten, and loves it. I have been highly frustrated by the fact that he is so advanced, and in a public school setting there is nearly nothing that can be done. And teachers only sort of care. Still wrestling with what to do about it. But he loves being there with his friends and learning gross obscene boy things, like what a "hairy pickle" is. Yeah, nasty. Homeschool may be closer than I thought. September also brought the death of an era. Our lousy old Grand Am got ditched in favor of a lovely white Ford Explorer. One weekend my parents bought a new Ford Ranger, Janna and Tony bought a Ford F150, and we got the Explorer. It has been fantastic, and we'd like to officially recommend Rigby Chevrolet and their family of dealerships. Oc...

Gadzooks

Well, I stink. August, really? What a lame-brain. I tell myself "there is nothing to write" and then a few days later there's too much, I get overwhelmed, and...you've seen what happens. And now I have a goal for the year 2011 - well, I have several, but one of them is to blog weekly, at least. I am not going to wait till January to start - we start now. Well, on the next post.... And remind me to post on goals later...
